During the first week of Sept., I will be heading back to Strange Weather Brooklyn to work on tracks for an upcoming release.... and while I'm there, I will be performing with my great friends and favorite Brooklyn band, Bugs in the Dark! The show is Friday Sept. 7th, at The Gutter. I look forward to seeing my friends on the East Coast and am ready to drum up some inspiration through my travels.
In other news, the L.A. record did a nice little review on "Songs for ZeMean". It was a nice surprise, as I sent them my album several months ago.... but I feel honored as I know that they get flooded with SO many great bands!
Check it out.
LAKOOKALA: SONGS FOR ZEMEAN
This one-woman band, led by Nico Ranalli from her drum throne, has been compared to Alison Mossheart from the Kills. But I think it’s more like if PJ Harvey tried to redo PiL’s Flowers of Romance, especially on my favorite, the Side B opus “Without You.” She makes some amazing choices in her sparse accompaniment–simple piano bangs here, overblown Mellotron there. Minus one point for the shockingly conventional guitar on “Bad Timing” (the other songs have none, and to their benefit), but any bad vibes are washed away by the mottled pink vinyl she pressed this on!
